Introducing Grayson Luke...

This blog posting has been six weeks in the making! It's been so hard finding the time to edit these photos, but here they are! Our sweet Grayson was born December 29and weighed 8 pounds, 7 ounces. He is an absolute joy and makes our family of boys complete!

I have been in a frenzy of sessions and editing over the past weeks. Right now, edit times are at a full four weeks, but I am almost caught up! Just about seven more weeks until baby boy Buck #3 makes his appearance. It gets harder and harder every day to keep up with the energetic little ones during my photo sessions (and my own at home!), and harder to sit in a computer chair for long stretches of time. Oh the joys of pregnancy! It will be worth it all when I get to hold baby in my arms! Can't wait!

Welcome to my studio!

Drum roll please...
Here is my brand new studio!
I am in love, that is for sure. It has made my life and my business about 110% easier!
Some things I love about my studio:
*White walls and white floors provide the perfect permanent reflector of light!
*Large windows let in as much natural light as possible.
*Cozy waiting area, with chairs that double as props.
*A few of my favorite photos on display.
*My props easily accessible and in one place.
*And, last but not least, NO DINING ROOM TABLE TO MOVE! :) Those of you who have had a session with me in my home will appreciate that one! (And the fact that two little boys aren't constantly running in and out of the room!)

An extra-special thanks to the next few families up on my blog for waiting longer than normal for their photos. When my dad was so sick, I got behind on my editing. And, once you are behind, it is REALLY hard to get caught up as the sessions keep coming. My dad is doing much better, and for that I am so thankful. Thanks to all of you who offered prayers and well-wishes to me and my family during that time. I have the best customers in the whole world. I feel so blessed to work with such nice families (like the one below!), doing something I enjoy!

What an adorable family!

Thank you for all of the nice thoughts and prayers for my dad. He is still in the ICU and will probably be there for awhile yet. Some things have improved, some things are remaining the same. We are thankful for a God who is still in control even when we have no idea what is going on! I will keep you all posted...

On a personal note...

Last Friday, my dad had heart surgery. What was supposed to be a relatively routine procedure has turned into something much, much more and he is still in the ICU fighting to stabilize. Edit times will be longer than normal, as I put them on the back burner until his health improves. Sessions on August 13th may be rescheduled as well if things do not change. Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated as my family and I get through this very difficult time.

My baby turned four! And because I had not done a photoshoot with him in OVER A YEAR, and because he just got a vintage cowboy-themed new bedroom (and I needed some "coordinating artwork"), and because he finally got his cast off after having a broken leg half of the summer, and because he is just so darn cute, we finally got around to doing one. Some exciting news!

Whew! It has been a whirwind summer for me so far! We have had some ups and downs lately, and I am hoping things will get back to "normal" (whatever that is) soon. We started the summer off with my youngest son breaking his leg, and things seemed to go a bit downhill from there. But, we press on!
I have some exciting news! In the next month or two, Resolutions Photography will be moving into a brand new studio! This studio will be located about a two minute drive from my home, so it will be in approximately the same location. I will still be shooting newborns in my home, but everything else will be done outdoors and in my new studio! I'll be posting photos of my new studio when work on it is completed, which should be soon!

on what to wear (spring and summer edition)

Your clothing selections are such a huge part of your photo session, and I know it can be a bit overwhelming deciding what to bring the day of your session. Clothes that work best for a photo session may not be what you would put on your child in every day life, making clothing selections even more difficult!
Your selections can greatly enhance the look of your photos by inspiring me to utilize my backdrops and outdoor locations to their fullest potential! Below, I have come up with some suggestions of what to wear and what not to wear to help you get an idea of what I am (and am not) inspired by, and what works with my backdrops, locations, etc.
First, let's start with what not to wear for girls. Here's what doesn't work: overly "precious" clothes with lots of ruffles and bows, clothes with lots of appliques, character clothing (Dora, Hello Kitty, etc), clothes that are too adult for your little girl, garish colors, "stuffy" Sunday-best dresses (satin, velvet, sequins, etc.), clothes with sayings on them that are not personal to your little girl, clothes with lots of glitter and sequins. Also remember to do their fingernails and toenails (or leave them plain)! They show in the photos more often than not!

Next, let's talk about what does work! Remember, these selections are based upon my own personal taste, and what I know works well with my backdrops and outdoor locations: vintage prints, faded denimn (jeans, jackets), simple white tops with cute tailoring, bright & happy colors, unusual color combinations, vintage dresses, pillowcase dresses, simple white sundresses, personalized tees (name, initial or age), layers, layers, layers, fun hats, headbands and scarves, classic prints in classic colors (red and white gingham, black and white polka dot), handmade clothing as you would find on etsy

OK, let's talk about boys. What works: vintage prints, classic themes (robots, bugs, pirate, rock n roll, etc.), classic white button down shirt or polo, faded denim (jeans or jacket), unusual color combinations (or unusual for boys, like turquoise, pink, coral, etc.), layers upon layers, fun vintage shoes and hats, classic prints and plaids, personalized prints (name, initial, age, funny saying, "big brother," etc).

And what doesn't work for boys: overly "stuffy" clothes (argyle sweater, suit and tie, character clothes, boring clothes. I know it's hard to keep it exciting with boys' clothes, but try to stay away from a blah colored polo and jeans. If going with a polo, pick a bright, fun color, add a pair of faded/ripped up jeans and give him a faux-hawk hairdo or add a fun hat (backwards baseball hat, fedora, etc). Here's some examples of what doesn't work so well for your photo shoot:

Addison was wide awake for her entire newborn session (the photo below where it looks like she is sleeping was snapped between sleepy blinks!). She was so aware of everything, and didn't want to miss a thing.
I admire her great parents, who were so cool, calm and collected through our entire session (a rarity among new parents!). I admire them because I was anything BUT cool, calm and collected with my first baby.

Spring Bookings

I have one change in my session dates for Spring. Instead of doing sessions on April 23rd, I will be doing them on April 30 instead. I will have a 9am, 10am, 11am and 12pm available that day.
